Film ini berawal dari agensi S H I E L D yang dipimpin oleh Samuel L. Jackson, Agensi ini sedang melakukan eksperimen untuk membuat nuklir dari energy cube. Energy ini mampu membangkitkan atau mengganti energy listrik didunia. Namun terjadi masalah pada cube ini, cube ini malah membuka portal antara bumi dan dunia asgard(planet luar) dengan terbukanya portal ini muncullah sesosok laki-laki bernama Loki,Loki ini adalah tokoh yang jahat yang sakit hati karena ia gagal menjadi Raja planet Asgard dan akan membalaskan dendamnya kepada Thor yang mengalahkan Loki sebagai Raja diplanet Asgard.Loki memiliki tongkat yang mampu merubah pikiran seseorang dan membuat 2 anggota S H I E L D kehilangan pikiran normalnya yaitu Dr. Erik Selving dan agen clint Barton. Karna Loki mengancam keamanan dunia maka pemimpin S H I E L D menyatukan semua superhero marvel dan menamai proyek ini THE AVENGER yaitu mengumpulkan agen Natasha Romanoff/ Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans) dan Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.). Loki pun tidak tinggal diam ia meminta bantuan kepada para pasukan perangnya dari planet asgard untuk menyerang bumi dan melumpuhkan kumpulan superhero tersebut, namun semua itu sia-sia The Avengers mampu mengalahkan setiap pasukan yang datang. Dan The Avengers pun mampu mengalahkan Loki dan dunia pun kembali aman.
